From Logline to Outline in One Sitting
A lightweight process to turn a one-sentence story idea into a usable chapter outline.
A logline is a promise. An outline is how you keep it without getting lost.
The 45-minute pass
- Logline — who wants what, why it matters, what’s in the way
- Desire & fear — internal stakes under the plot
- Three turns — something changes at ~25%, midpoint, and crisis
- Chapter beads — one sentence each; leave gaps on purpose
Don’t over-outline
If you know every beat, drafting can feel like typing. Leave blank chapters for discovery—especially mid-act relationships.
Where AI fits
Ask for structure options, not a finished book. Use PlotnAI’s outline generator to get a skeleton, then delete half of it and write toward the half that scares you a little.
